ISIS is well-known for its brutality, some of which was on display in Mosul when Iraqi soldiers recently took back a section of the city that has been under siege by the terror group.
The Iraqi fighters came across a mass grave in a remote area about 100 yards from a road. In it, they found something extremely disturbing – the bodies of 24 victims killed by members of ISIS. Wrapped in blankets, most of the slain were children.
ISIS is known for conducting mass executions of civilians – even for the “crime” of trying to flee to a safer area.
In a series of heartbreaking and graphic pictures, one soldier is seen breaking down, overcome with grief at the sight of the small bodies. In particular, one tiny girl seems to have struck him particularly hard.
Mosul has served as ISIS’s de facto capital since al-Baghdadi proclaimed himself head of a caliphate spanning Iraq and Syria from the Nuri Mosque in July 2014.
