A Delaware State Policeman has been killed in the line of duty after approaching a “suspicious” vehicle that had been parked outside a convenience store for an extended period.
One of the men inside the Dodge Charger – Burgon Sealy, Jr. – pulled a gun out and shot Corporal Stephen J. Ballard multiple times in the upper body, killing the 32-year-old husband and father on April 26.
The shooter – who had a criminal history of gun charges – then escaped the scene in a grey Honda and fled to his family’s home where he barricaded himself. A 12 hour stand-off with law enforcement ensued before police closed in on the home with an armed bulldozer. Sealy ran out of the building, shooting at the officers who returned fire and ultimately killed him.
That’s the story in the media. What the press completely scrubbed from the story was that during the all-night standoff with police, Sealy, 26, was quoting verses from the Qur’an. Any reports of this cold-blooded killing have all references to Islam, Qur’an, and motive scrubbed from the reportage.
Delaware State Representative Steve Smyk claimed in an interview with Delaware 105.9’s Rob Petree on Monday that Sealy was a practicing Muslim, and that he did in fact yell verses from the Qur’an during the standoff.
“What I can tell you is that there are people that will immediately assume that the war cry of, the Muslim war cry of ‘Allahu Akbar’ may have been said, and I don’t know that to be true. I do know that he was a ‘budding jihadist’ and that being said, how long was he a practicing Muslim, I’m not aware of,” said Rep. Smyk. “We do know that, at the scene, during this standoff he was heard citing quotes from the Quran, what those quotes were I don’t know.”
Burgon Sealy was a “budding jihadist,” shouting message from the Qur’an during a 12 hour standoff with multiple witnesses and yet no references to the ‘religion of peace’ have been forthcoming from the media or law enforcement investigating the crime.
The question remains whether this just another tragic shooting of a law enforcement officer or if the motive something even more nefarious. Was Sealy plotting an extremist plotting jihad and Ballard just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time?
What we do know is that radical Islamists are in our midst every day, in every state.
