It’s a common sense solution to deter rogue elected officials who ignore their duty to keep citizens of their communities safe – make those representatives accountable for crimes committed by illegal aliens.
One such bill is passing through the Ohio legislature that would enable the removal of officials who support so-called sanctuary cities. The Buckeye State is one of 25 states where laws “discouraging cities from non-cooperation with federal immigration law enforcement has either been introduced or is planned in state legislatures”, according to WND.
“The problem is real. It was a Painesville, Ohio, case that featured murder by an undocumented immigrant. The crime spree started with the attempted rape of a 14-year-old girl and ended with the murder of a 60-year-old woman.”
The Governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, is also coming down hard on sanctuary counties, such as Travis County, where he has eliminated state funding as the county continues to shield illegal aliens from federal law enforcement.
Abbott appeared on Fox News to discuss his state’s pending legislation to impose even stiffer penalties on sanctuary cities and other smaller jurisdictions – including college campus police – who provide safe harbor to illegal immigrants.
“When you look at the function of government – federal, state or local – our primary function as government is to keep our people safe,” Abbott said.
“The state of Texas has grant contracts with Travis County,” Abbott explained. “In those contracts, we put in there the terms that in order for them to receive grant money, they had to not have any type of sanctuary city policy.”
In Massachusetts, a sheriff has proposed issuing warrants to elected officials who shield criminal illegal aliens from federal law enforcement.
Bristol County Sheriff Thomas Hodgson told members of the House Judiciary Committee in March that sanctuary cities have become “magnets” for illegal immigrants, some of whom are violent criminals.
