Sanctuary cities are a hot topic with 25 state legislatures drawing up plans to punish officials and municipalities that harbor illegal aliens, whereas others are defiantly claiming that their cities and even schools are safe zones for those who are unlawfully in the country.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott on Sunday signed a bill that would ban sanctuary cities in his state. The bill establishes criminal and civil penalties for local government entities and law enforcement that don’t comply with immigration laws and detention requests. The new measure would fine government entities up to $25,500 for each day the law is violated.
No state has been more determined to shield illegal immigrants from federal law enforcement officers than California.
In April, the California Senate passed a bill to limit state and local police cooperation with federal immigration authorities, reported CNN.
Senate Bill 54, which unofficially has been called a “sanctuary state” bill, bars state and local law enforcement agencies from using their resources, including money, facility, property, equipment or personnel, to help with immigration enforcement. They would be prohibited from asking about immigration status, giving federal immigration authorities access to interview a person in custody or assisting them in immigration enforcement.Nearly a quarter of the US population of undocumented immigrants reside. Estimates range from 2.35 to 2.6 million, according to the Public Policy Institute of California.Several California counties such as Monterey, Santa Clara and San Diego already have sanctuary protections.
But not everyone is happy about California’s out-of-control sanctuary status for illegals. One black woman took her city council to task for it’s plan to assert Sanctuary City status.
“Sanctuary cities are racist” cried the African-American mother at a town hall meeting at the City of Cudahy California where a vote was held to establish sanctuary status. The passionate woman drove home the message that black communities have been robbed of opportunity because of illegal immigration. She also thanked President Trump for his actions to try to outlaw Sanctuary Cities – an effort that has been blocked by liberal activist judges, including one in California.
WATCH her hammer her city officials.
